SleepTimer and the HP TouchPad

Unfortunately, it seems like there may be a compatibility issue with SleepTimer and the HP TouchPad. I have received a few complaints about it not working properly. While not all of these issue are reproducible, the number of complaints is concerning. As a precautionary measure, I have removed it form the app catalog until a fully compatible update is released. Follow @neathings on twitter to make sure you don’t miss it!

Update:

So it turns out the method used by SleepTimer will only stop music on the TouchPad if the app playing the music is one that runs in the phone emulator. Unfortunately, this means SleepTimer no longer works with newer versions of webOS, and will remain out of the app catalog indefinitely, unless something changes.

Welcome to the New Site

Well it’s been a long time coming, but finally neathings has undergone a complete face-lift. The site is now powered by WordPress and using a different host.  I must say, I am quite pleased with the results.  Now everything is combined into one site, instead of needing a separate page for neat things and webOS apps.  If you just want to look at things or apps, use the links in the sidebar, or in the menu above!

The site now has comments enabled throughout, powered by Disqus.  Feel free to comment and let me know what you think about the site.

If you find any issues with the site, or any broken links, please contact support.

P.S. A new webOS app is headed down the pipeline.  It’s a simple game, but pretty entertaining!

First official webOS application – SleepTimer

This is the first application in the App Catalog developed by neathings.  It has been a great experience getting to this point.  Developing for webOS has been fun, and it really is a great platform.  I hope to develop many more app in the future.

SleepTimer turns your webOS phone into a music sleep timer.  Simply set how long you want your music to play, and it will stop your music automatically for you.  Check it out here.

MusicMinder – Beta Released for Public Testing

MusicMinder, the first application from neathings, is now out in the form of a public beta.  There are many ways to get the app, but the easiest is to go to the following link:

http://developer.palm.com/webChannel/index.php?packageid=com.neathings.musicminderbeta

You can also check out the app and all future apps developed by neathings at the brand new webOS portal. [the portal has since been replaced by this very site]

The application is still in beta, so it is not complete.  There is room for improvement in both speed and user interface.  Please check the app out and leave a review!

MusicMinder alpha is complete

The alpha version of my first application, MusicMinder, is now complete.  This application is to help you keep track of songs you hear while out and about.  When you start up the app, you are presented with a list view of the current songs, which display the lyrics you entered, along with the location at which you heard the song.  Tapping on the plus button at the bottom allows you to add a new song to the list.  from here you can enter in where you head the song, some of the lyrics, as well as the artist, title, and any additional notes you wold like to save.  The button on this page do exactly what you would expect.  Click on the search lyrics button, and you are taken to a Google search of the lyrics you have entered.  Click on the Youtube button to do a Youtube search, and click on the Amazon button to search amazon’s mp3 store for the song.  Press save or do a back gesture to go back to the list of all of your songs.  Tapping on any song lets you edit any of the information that you have about it. Swiping a song allows you to delete it from the list permanently.

Working on some apps for WebOS

Recently I have been learning how to developing apps for palm’s WebOS.  It seems to be a pretty easy platform to develop for.  My biggest drawback is my lack of knowledge of javascript.  Just to give everyone some background, I have only taken one college level programming course, and it was in Matlab.  Everything else I have learned on my own.
